Our environmental, health, safety and security goals are embraced globally by each member of our workforce, and are designed to achieve and sustain an incident-free workplace. This means zero injuries, illnesses, process events, or incidents impacting the environment or communities where we operate.

This goal supports one of Chemtura’s core principles, which is to ensure the safety and health of the public, our employees and contractors, our customers and the environment. We demonstrate this passion and commitment by setting vigorous continuous improvement targets, prioritizing risk through thorough evaluations and the implementation of effective, sustainable controls, and by upholding the guiding principles of Responsible Care® program of the American Chemistry Council (ACC). This voluntary participation in the American Chemistry Council (ACC) provides Chemtura with a mechanism for publicly reporting Responsible Care® metrics, which are established to create uniform chemical industry standards for company and industry-wide performance. We are proud of our EHSS performance and the progress we have made.

Tracking Safety Metrics

We have historically tracked the following lagging metrics throughout our global operations. Each incident is reviewed globally, with shared learning disseminated globally to prevent similar occurrence.

  • recordable injuries and illnesses (based on U.S. OSHA recordkeeping criteria).
  • environmentally significant incidents (ESI), which is an internal measure developed to capture environmental events prompting regulatory notifications or spills in excess of conservative internal thresholds.
  • process safety incidents (PSIs), which conform to ACC and API 754 guidelines.

As our EHSS culture continues to mature, we have expanded our trend analysis to include various leading indicators.
