Vice President, Corporate Controller and Principal Accounting Officer
Laurence Orton is vice president, corporate controller and principal accounting officer for Chemtura Corporation.
Mr. Orton joined Chemtura in October 2004 as the U.K. financial controller with responsibility for the financial performance of the global Phosphorus Flame Retardants business. He was promoted to finance director for the Urethanes business in December 2005, and relocated to the United States. In September 2006, he was named business CFO for the former Performance Specialties division, and was promoted in January 2008 to vice president, financial planning and analysis. Mr. Orton was named vice president, finance and investor relations in November 2010.
Mr. Orton qualified as a chartered accountant in July 1997 and held group accounting positions at Astra Zeneca Group and subsequently at Avecia Group Plc, where he moved into business finance, looking after a global biocides business. He was a key member of the team that sold the business to Arch Chemicals in 2004.
Mr. Orton received his Bachelor of Arts with honors in industrial economics from the University of Nottingham, U.K., School of Management and Finance. He became a member of the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) in 1997 after completing his professional studies, and continues to be a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales.
